The American Premier Soccer League opened up its 2015 playoffs on Saturday, July 18 at Broward College with a quarterfinal doubleheader which put Miami Dade FC vs Alianza Miami, and Red Force FC vs South Florida FC.
In the first game of the doubleheader, Miami Dade FC took an early 1-0 lead over Alianza Miami when Kerlon Moura found the back of the net.
Miami Dade went on to defeat Alianza Miami 3-0 to set up a meeting with top-seeded Boca Raton FC on Saturday, July 25 at Boca Raton HS.
“We are excited at the opportunity to play Boca Raton once again,” says Robert Link. “They are a great club and it will be a very hard game in a place they are comfortable in playing.”
Boca Raton FC (8-0-1) is the top-seeded team and its only loss came to the hands of Miami Dade FC early in the season, since then the club went on a 7-game win streak and were crowned the regular season champions.
In the second game of the quarterfinal doubleheader, Red Force FC met South Florida FC where the two APSL powerhouses duked it out in an exciting 5-3 match that ended in Red Force’s favor.
Former Chivas USA and Fort Lauderdale Strikers, Scott Gordon, got the scoring started for Red Force and the clubs went back and forth in an exciting match. Red Force’s Herber Hernandez scored twice and Victor Flores and Steven Salinas both had one for the 3rd-ranks Red Force FC.
Red Force FC has set up a date to play 2nd-ranked Uruguay Kendall in the other semifinals.
The top four teams have made it to the semifinals, and this weekend only two will come out with a spot the inaugural APSL Finals.
“We are excited about the opportunity to compete in the semifinals,” says Boca Raton FC’s head coach Marcelo Castillo. “The level of play in the APSL has been tremendous this season and the four best teams will now have a chance to play for the finals.”
