Minnesota United FC Looks to Regain Form Versus Last-Place San Antonio

via press release

Minnesota United FC heads to Toyota Field in San Antonio, TX to face the San Antonio Scorpions this Saturday, August 31. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. CDT.

Looking to forge ahead in the Fall Season, Minnesota heads into Saturday hoping to regain their form. Former Scorpions Pablo Campos and Aaron Pitchkolan are heading back to the Alamo City to face their former club. Campos made the trip in the spring, but Pitchkolan missed the match due to injury.

Minnesota is coming off a tough 1-0 loss at the hands of the top of the table Carolina RailHawks this past weekend. United had chances to score and controlled possession for large stretches, but the NASL league-leader in goals, Brian Shriver once again spelled doom for United, putting in the eventual game-winner in the 52nd minute.

“Certainly we need to be focused and ready to play this weekend against a team that has struggled at the start the season.” Said United head coach Manny Lagos, “We have to be ready in all aspects of the game for a good result.”

The Scorpions have seen turmoil to start the Fall Season, opening up with four straight losses and recently relieving their manager, Tim Hankinson of his duties on August 27.  Interim manager, Alen Marcina will step up in his stead and manage the Scorpions for the first time this weekend.

The Scorpions are returning home to Toyota Field after dropping a 2-1 match in New York against the Cosmos. Scorpions striker Tomasz Zahorski has scored 4 goals in four matches as a member of the club, and his battery mate, Hans Denissen, the Spring Season goal leader, will create a difficult matchup for the United defense.

Minnesota drew 0-0 with the Scorpions to open the 2013 NASL season at the H.H.H. Metrodome, and fell 2-0 at Toyota Field later in the Spring Season.
