A little less than a year ago, Landon Donovan’s future in soccer was anybody’s guess. The L.A. Galaxy superstar took a three-month sabbatical upon winning his second MLS Cup to rediscover his love for the game which left fans, and management alike wondering what will be of “Captain America”.

In the end, Donovan returned to L.A. and struggled at the start, but found his stride after a great summer with the USMNT in the Gold Cup, and he has also picked up his game in MLS.

In the last few games, Donovan has been on a tear, scoring four times in the last three games for the L.A. Galaxy who are currently in second play in the MLS’s Western Conference Standings with 40 points.

Donovan’s contract would be up after this season and there was much speculation where the USMNT Star would end up. There were talks of Donovan finally making the move to Europe, but in the end, home is where the heart is.

According to multiple reports, the L.A. Galaxy and Landon Donovan have agreed on a multi-year extension to his contract early on Tuesday morning. The Galaxy are expected to make it official on Wednesday.

Donovan is a one of the most decorated MLS players in the history of the league with five MLS cup championships (two with the San Jose Earthquakes, and three with the L.A. Galaxy). He is also only three goals behind the all-time record set by Jeff Cunningham (134).

Donovan is expected to make his long awaited return to the USMNT World Cup Qualifying squad next week for the first time in over a year.

Good for Donovan, I’m glad he decided to stay! This goes to show that MLS is growing as a league and players are willing to stay here rather than go oversees!
